A survey of attitudes, not measured policy success
The survey targeted 3,000 eligible voters nationwide and received 2,000 responses. Expectations of more bookstores were 61%, versus 37% without such expectations; 63% favored improving the situation of bookstore-free municipalities. These figures describe opinions, not an established increase in stores.
What local bookstores provide
Multiple-choice responses highlighted examining physical books, 66%; immediate purchases, 42%; and unexpected good discoveries, 28%. They inform discussion about local access to books. Survey methods and respondents matter, and expectations should be separated from actual business conditions.
