Regional achievement does not eliminate every risk
PAHO reported 35 years without wild-poliovirus cases in the Americas. However, third-dose inactivated polio vaccine coverage in 2025 was 87%, below its 95% target. Absence of wild-virus cases is not absence of every polio risk; protection and regional gaps still matter.
Link eradication with everyday health services
UNICEF USA describes integrating efforts in places including Pakistan and Afghanistan with other vaccination, safe water, sanitation and nutrition. Conflict, fragile health systems and funding pressures impede progress. This is reporting on public-health systems, not instructions for an individual's vaccine schedule or medical decisions.
