Released October 23, 2026, covering September. The index uses the 2025 average as 100.
Index levels and annual changes
The all-items index was 102.2; excluding fresh food it was 102.3; excluding fresh food and energy it was 102.8. Their annual increases were 2.1%, 2.1% and 2.4%, respectively. An index of 102.2 does not mean a 102.2% price increase.
An average, rather than every household's bill
The overall index combines many goods and services. Comparing the three measures helps distinguish their coverage. Actual household costs depend on purchases; the release does not say every family's spending rose exactly 2.1%.
